What is Equestrian Riding?

Equestrian riding is done in an English saddle. This saddle is flat and small, it keeps you in closer contact with your horse. This is compared to a western saddle which is heavier and bigger, with a horn on the front for tying things to. Each sport has various disciplines. Some English disciplines are; dressage, show jumping, eventing, etc… English riding involves the coordination of multiple areas such as the riders legs, reins and body weight. This can be difficult at first, this style of riding requires the rider to be very balanced. Some people believe that it is better to begin with English riding lessons. If you become comfortable riding in an English saddle and coordinating English aids it is easier to then ride western. If you learn western it can be harder to then ride English, in other words you will learn to ride all over again.

M.C. Equestrian has been operating for over 25 years. We focus on the Show Jumping discipline. Show Jumping then contains some different aspects or classes. As a beginner we believe you should learn the proper position and ways to control your horse; which is considered equitation. When you begin jumping we believe riders should be taught the aspects of show ring hunters. Along with your equitation, a simple course of jumps is added where you must maintain an even gait, find the proper placing of your horse at a jump, perform proper changes of direction and a correct number of strides(or horse steps) between the jumps. Once these are conquered it is then normal to progress into the Jumpers. Jumpers jump high, bright coloured obstacles. An element of speed and quick turning is involved making it more difficult.
