Lessons

We operate a lesson horse program for those riders who do not own their own horse. We have around 16 horses; Big, Small, Old, Fast, Experienced and Young – a variety to learn on as your riding progresses. You will learn everything from the ground up! How to catch, lead, tie up and brush your horse. How to put the equipment on and how to understand your horses’ body language. This can take a few lessons and during this time your riding time may be short, but you will be introduced to; getting on and off your horse, stopping, going and steering. Your riding will keep progressing and you will learn about all the horse’s gaits; halt, reinback, walk, trot, canter and hand gallop. Jumping will be introduced at some point, this usually begins with trot poles and progresses to x-rails (small jumps) and upward. How often you ride dictates how fast you learn, the more practice the better. Our minimum requirement is to ride once per week in a group lesson.

Our program is designed to get you comfortable around horses, give you some basic understanding of horses why they do what they do (or don’t do!!) and when you are ready we even introduce you to competitions – which everyone loves and aims for!! Once you have started and progressed you may outgrow our program, want to jump higher or begin attending more shows. At this point we are happy to help you move into a half-lease, full lease or purchase a horse of your own! Of course, if you are keen we are more than happy to guide you towards the right purchase or lease at any time, sometimes you just know right away that owning a horse is something you want!

At this point please refer to our pricelist, I think you will find the cost to be quite reasonable. Contact us to arrange a first lesson, all you need are boots with a small heel and some comfortable pants – we supply the rest, we want you to ride for a couple months before spending money on riding equipment, just to make sure you like it. If you like, you can arrange a tour and watch some lessons. Our policy is to pay for one month’s lessons at the beginning of that month. You are committing at this point but the cost is still minimal compared to some stables that require very large non-refundable deposits.

If you are interested in seeing pictures of our lesson horses you can see them under “Our Horses”! They are ready and waiting to meet you!! Feel free to bring an apple or a carrot!
